GETTING TO LAGUARDIA AIRPORT:
LaGuardia Airport (LGA)is one of the three major commercial airports that serve the New York City metropolitan area. This airport is distinguished from the other two by its central location closest to Manhattan. LGA is located in Queens right on the waterfront of Flushing and Bowery Bays in East Elmhurst. Because of a perimeter rule, flights originating from LGA cannot travel more than 1,500 miles, with the exception of service to Denver International Airport or on Saturdays. Because there is no onsite border control facility located at LaGuardia Airport, international flights without border preclearance must fly out of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
While there is no direct subway service from Manhattan to LGA, two Select Bus Service-branded bus rapid transit lines link the airport to the New York City Subway and Long Island Rail Road. Passengers are allowed free transfers when using the MetroCard to make subway connections. A one-way trip on MTA buses or subways will cost you $2.75.
A variety of private cars, shuttle vans, taxi cabs, and rideshares service LGA. All taxis are regulated by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission. A taxi ride from Manhattan to LGA will cost you between $35-50 plus all applicable tolls and surcharges.
When driving to LaGuardia Airport, the primary road that runs to the facility is the Grand Central Parkway. This road can be accessed via Interstate 495 or Interstate 278, depending on where are you coming from and traffic conditions. As with any travel in the New York City area, traffic can vary greatly, making it necessary that you always leave ample time to get to the airport.
