On-site at Louisville airport, there are several choices. Louisville International Airport (SDF) is the principal airport for the city of Louisville, Kentucky, as well as surrounding areas in Kentucky such as Lexington and nearby states like Ohio, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee. Despite being located in the state’s largest city, it’s the second busiest in Kentucky, following Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Boone County. Home to the world’s largest UPS hub, Worldport, Louisville airport handles ranks third in North America and tenth in the world in terms of cargo handled. Regardless, it remains a low-fare airport for travelers, with over 3.3 million passenger pass through its gates in 2010.
Only 10 minutes from downtown Louisville, SDF airport is easily accessible at the intersection of I-65 and I-264. From Nashville or Lexington, take I-65 North or I-64 West to I-264 West and follow signs for the airport. If traveling from St. Louis or Cincinatti, take I-64 East or I-71 South to I-264 and head for Louisville airport. Those in need of public transportation can take advantage of bus service from Transit Authority of River City (TARC) buses, with pickup locations on the east end of the terminal.
SDF airport offers nonstop service to 28 destinations, including Miami, San Diego, Minneapolis, New York and Philadelphia. Major airlines like American, United, US Airways, Vision Airlines, Southwest, Frontier and Delta all fly out of Louisville International Airport.
