OAK is located approximately 10 miles south of downtown Oakland and is across the bay from the city of San Francisco. The major carriers that run operations out of OAK include Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Airlines.
When arriving by motor vehicle, Oakland International Airport is accessible from Interstate 880, also known as the Nimitz Freeway. This access point is two miles from the airport and travelers should exit at either Hegenberger Road or 98th Avenue heading west.
If utilizing public transit to travel to OAK, many passengers choose the Coliseum–Oakland International Airport line. This route is also known as BART to OAK Airport and connects the BART Coliseum Station to the Oakland International Airport's BART station terminal buildings. The vehicles depart from the airport and the Coliseum station approximately every five minutes during daily peak travel hours. The one-way trip between the two stops takes about eight minutes. Travelers can also access the Amtrak Capitol Corridor train from the BART Coliseum station.
In addition, travelers who want to use public transportation can arrive at OAK through one of three dedicated bus routes on the AC Transit system. Route 21 services passengers during the daytime and early evening hours while Route 73 runs 24 hours per day. Lastly, Route 805 runs its routes overnight as part of the All Nighter bus network that services the entire Bay Area.
Passengers may also arrive at OAK via taxi cab or with rideshare providers Uber, Lyft, and Wingz.
