GETTING TO PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:

Portland International Airport (PDX) is a joint civilian and military airport, located within the limits of the city of Portland in Multnomah County. PDX is conveniently located just 12 miles from downtown Portland. The military outpost of the PDX is occupied by the Oregon Air National Guard with a base on the southwestern part of the airport grounds. PDX is a secondary hub for both Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

Travelers wanting to use public transportation can choose the MAX Red Line light rail service, operated by TriMet. This line connects travelers with downtown Portland to PDX, as well as to points farther west such as the suburb of Beaverton. The PDX MAX light rail station is located just steps away from the airport's baggage claim area, giving passengers easy access to all areas of Portland. Trains on the red line depart and arrive approximately every 15 minutes. During the late-night hours when the MAX is not in operation, travelers can travel to and from PDX using the 272-PDX Night Bus route.

Passengers arriving by vehicle will appreciate the convenience of I-205 to the airport. This interstate connects the airport with Portland as well as many areas of Southwestern Washington, such as the city of Vancouver. In addition to taxi service, PDX is also served by Uber, Lyft, and Wingz. The average taxi fare from the downtown area to PDX is approximately $35, with rideshare services coming in slightly less.

It is no surprise that a city that is as cyclist-friendly as Portland also makes it easy to travel to and from the airport by bike. Cyclists can use the multi-use pathways that connect to Marine Drive to bike all the way to the terminal building. Bike racks are located in both the north and south parts of the airport terminal so that passengers can leave their bikes while they are away. Be sure to bring your own lock. PDX also offers an innovative work station and assembly area for repairing bicycles. The Oregon Welcome Center provides a tool check-out service for those needing a little extra assistance.

PARKING AT PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:

Parking at Portland International Airport is easy if you take the time to educate yourself about the options prior to your departure. Passengers will drop off the vehicle near the ticketing counter and know it will be waiting for them when they return. Rates for this service are $10 per hour and $35 per day.

For the closest self-parking to the terminal, the Short Term Garage offers over 3,000 public stalls at a rate of $3 per hour or $27 per day. Skybridges on level 4 of the garage and tunnels connect the garage to the terminal building. The Long Term Garage also offers connecting tunnels for passengers, providing easy access to the terminal. These rates are slightly less expensive at $24 per day.

This mid-size airport boasts a host of complimentary services and amenities, such as a children's play area and free Wi-Fi.

Beyond the ticket counters, travelers will find a shopping center with a bevy of offerings. Oregon is a state with no sales tax, therefore all of the stores in PDX do not charge a tax. The progressive policies of the Port of Portland mandate that all on-site airport shops and restaurants practice fair pricing with no pricing gouging allowed. Local favorites that operate stores out of PDX include Made in Oregon, Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Powell's Books, and Oregon Pendleton Shop.

PDX also boasts a myriad of locally-sourced food and the famous Portland craft beer. “My true ‘ah ha’ moment with AboutAirportParking...

... I was running behind in traffic, flying out for a big family gathering. Stressed, I show up at Fox Auto Park - It was so close to the terminal and with the shuttle service - I realized then, this really is easy and I felt confident with catching my flight on time. Thanks!”
