SMF Airport Guide
Sacramento International Airport (SMF), located approximately 10 miles outside of downtown Sacramento, serves the capital of California and surrounding cities in Sacramento County. With over four million passengers passing through the airport’s gates in 2010, it’s no wonder the airport launched a billion dollar plan to modernize Terminal B, with the new Central Terminal B opening in October 2011. Nonstop flights from Sacramento include domestic and international destinations such as Guadalajara, Honolulu, Atlanta, Chicago, New York City and Washington DC.
SMF airport is conveniently near US Highway 99, I-80 and I-5, whether passengers are coming from Stockton, Redding, Davis, or anywhere in the Bay Area. In addition, the Sacramento Yolobus offers daily routes from the airport to cities throughout the region, including routes from Central Terminal B to downtown Sacramento, Davis and Woodland.
Southwest Airlines is by far the airport’s biggest air carrier, accounting for nearly half of all airline passenger traffic. However, other major airlines such as United, Delta, Alaska Airlines, US Airways, American, Aeromexico, Frontier, JetBlue and Hawaiian also fly out of Sacramento airport.
After years of modernization, the new Central Terminal B has opened. Now, there are two terminals at Sacramento International Airport:
- Major air carriers flying out of Terminal A include Delta, United and US Airways
- Terminal B is utilized by Alaska Airlines, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, Southwest and Aeromexico
