Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located approximately 25 miles west of downtown Washington, D.C., serving the nation's capital and the heavily populated area of Northern Virginia. IAD serves more than 100 global destinations and is a major hub for United Airlines.


With a city as connected as Washington, D.C., it makes sense that there would be an abundance of public transportation options serving its premier airport. Boasting an expected completion date of July of 2020, passengers will soon enjoy direct access to D.C. via the Metro's Silver Line. Until then, travelers can take the special Silver Line Express Bus from the Wiehle – Reston East Metro station to IAD. This 15-minute ride allows you to access all parts of the extensive Metro train network to reach a myriad of destinations.


Travelers can also arrive at IAD via the region's bus transport system. Fairfax Connector bus routes 981 and 983 serve IAD, providing connections to the Herndon–Monroe park & ride lot, the Reston Town Center transit, and the Wiehle – Reston East Metro station. Passengers wishing to travel to the Shenandoah Valley can choose to use the Shenandoah Valley Commuter Bus, providing service to both the Vienna and Rosslyn Metro stations. From here, travelers can access all areas of the D.C. metro area.


When arriving by vehicle, the airport is accessible using the Dulles Access Road/Dulles Greenway (State Route 267) and State Route 28. The Washington Flyer system operates all of the cabs from Washington Dulles Airport. Passengers can also choose to arrive and depart using various rideshare services.


PARKING AT WASHINGTON DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:


Washington Dulles International Airport parking is a breeze if you have done your research. On-site short-term parking at Washington Dulles International Airport is located near the terminals. The terminal parking and Garage 1 and 2 offers spots for $6 per hour.


For long-term IAD parking, travelers can choose between options at the Terminal Daily Lot, Garages 1 and 2, the Economy Lot, the Valet Parking, and the cornucopia of off-site options. As the most premium option, Valet Parking runs $35 for the first 24 hours and $20 for each additional day. For the ultimate in convenience, drivers can choose to add the optional Car Care service for a professional hand car wash and interior vacuuming to their Valet Parking package. Parking Garages 1 and 2 will cost you $17 per day while the Economy Parking has a flat rate of $10 per day.

Dulles has a main terminal that is separated into four concourses, labeled A, B, C, and D. An automated people mover makes it easy to get around between concourses. If you have an extended amount of time before your flights, many travelers swear by a visit to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. As an extension of the National Air & Space Museum, this center boasts a collection of 1,000 aviation and space artifacts.
